Wallpaper Samples: A Better Way to Choose Your Wall Finish

A wallpaper sample is a decision tool, not just a color chip. It lets you compare the finish with the surfaces already in your room and identify questions before ordering material. York’s product pages encourage sample review; for an ETT project, that review can also improve the information available for an installation estimate.
Compare real materials together
Set the sample beside your paint sample, cabinet finish, flooring, and a fabric you plan to keep. View the group vertically, as it will appear in the room. Check daylight and evening light separately.
Avoid making a final decision from a cropped phone image. Screens can help narrow your options, but they cannot reproduce every texture or lighting effect.
Separate appearance from installation method
Similar-looking designs may be sold on different substrates. York offers both traditional and peel-and-stick versions of some designs, including Handloom. The look alone does not tell you which installation instructions apply.
Record the full product name, item number, colorway, and material. Save the manufacturer’s instructions with those details so the installer can review the exact product.
Look at scale and stopping points
A small sample may not show a complete repeat. Ask for a room scene or a full pattern view to understand how the design develops. Then identify where wallpaper will meet paint, tile, trim, or another room.
